Dans la lignée de Stevie Wonder : India Arie et Raul Midon… / Following in the footsteps of Stevie Wonder

Il y a quelques années, je me suis retrouvée au Festival de Jazz de la Défense en face d’un excellent artiste (à l’époque très peu connu). J’ai un excellent souvenir de ce concert et souhaitais vous faire (re)découvrir Raul Midon mais aussi India Arie. Deux artistes talentueux (à la fin, vous pourrez découvrir un live exceptionnel).

Dans la lignée de Stevie Wonder, Raul Midon est un chanteur, auteur-compositeur et guitariste américain. Un accident à sa naissance au Nouveau-Mexique l’a rendu aveugle. Il fait ses premiers pas en découvrant la batterie avec son père, étudie ensuite la musique tout en apprenant la guitare qu’il n’a jamais quittée. Il débute sa carrière en qualité de choriste puis commence un parcours en solo. Il collabore avec de grands artistes tel que Herbie Hancock. Il enregistre son premier album avec le producteur de Norah Jones, c’est un succès. Récompensé aux Grammy Awards, il enregistre deux autres albums qui confirment son talent (morceau à écouter « State of Mind »). Raul Midon, c’est un cocktail de soul, funk, jazz aux sonorités de musiques latines.

India Arie est une chanteuse, compositrice et guitariste américaine de néo soul et RnB. Elle fait ses débuts en chantant dans la chorale de son école et apprend également la flûte à bec, le saxophone, la clarinette, le cor, la trompette puis plus tard la guitare. Elle co-fonde un groupe d’artistes d’Atlanta et ensuite sort des albums en indépendant et se produit sur scène. Ses prestations scéniques lui ouvrent des portes : elle rencontre le directeur de la Motown qui la fait enregistrer son premier album solo. Ses références sont Stevie Wonder ou Georges Benson et son style musical se rapproche de Lauryn Hill ou D’Angelo.

Following in the footsteps of Stevie Wonder, Raul Midon is an American singer-songwriter and guitarist. An accident when he was born in New-Mexico made him blind. First, he played drums with his father, then he studied music while learning guitar. He started his career as chorister and began his solo career. He worked with great artists like Herbie Hancock. He recorded his first album with the producer of Norah Jones, it is a success. He was rewarded at the Grammy Awards. He recorded two albums (song to discover : « State of Mind »). Raul Midon, he is like a cocktail of soul, funk, jazz with Latin sounds.

India Arie is an american singer, songwriter and guitarist of Neo Soul and RnB. She started as chorus girl in her school and learned to play flute, sax, clarinet, horn, trumpet. She studied the jewellery and learned to play guitar. She co-founded an artists band from Atlanta and put out independent albums. Her scenic performances has opened doors : she met the Motown Director and recorded her first solo album. Her references are Stevie Wonder or Georges Benson and her style is close to Lauryn Hill or D’Angelo.
